The Health Foundation is funding a two-year fellowship at the UK Health Alliance on Climate Change to shape and deliver a new commission on net zero carbon surgery.

The Net-Zero carbon surgery commission is a partnership between the UK Health Alliance on Climate Change (UKHACC), Brighton and Sussex Medical School and the Centre for Sustainable Healthcare. Chaired by Professor Mahmood Bhutta, this two-year project will bring together key stakeholders from a number of national institutions, and harness existing evidence and knowledge to deliver recommendations for policy makers, institutions and individuals. The fellow will lead delivery of the commission in collaboration with the chair (including relevant project and stakeholder management, handling of evidence and report writing), support development of related education content, and lead delivery and implementation of key recommendations.

About the UK Health Alliance on Climate Change (UKHACC)

The UKHACC brings together Britain’s leading health institutions, representing over 900,000 health professionals, to advocate for responses to climate change that protect and promote health. It includes many of the Medical and Nursing Royal Colleges, the Royal Society of Medicine, the British Medical Association, the Lancet and the Faculty of Public Health. The Alliance communicates the relationship between health and climate change to government, the public and other health professionals. Climate change is the greatest health threat of the 21st century; our vision is that the threats to planetary health from climate change are minimised in a way that maximises potential benefits to health. UKHACC will be the host organisation for this role.
