Safety Measurement and Monitoring The aim of the Safety Measurement and Monitoring programme was to test and develop Professor Charles Vincent and colleagues' measurement and monitoring framework, translating their research into an approach that could be successfully adopted in diverse health care practice settings

Beginning in 2014, four regional improvement organisations tested a framework for measuring and monitoring patient safety across several sites, as part of this major Health Foundation programme. 

Aims

The programme was based on research by Professor Charles Vincent and colleagues, published by the Health Foundation in 2013. The programme aimed to translate the research into a framework that could be successfully applied across diverse health care settings.

Programme details

The four improvement organisations - Advancing Quality Alliance (AQuA), Healthcare Improvement Scotland, Haelo and Yorkshire and Humber Improvement Academy - applied this framework in a number of different settings using a variety of measurement and improvement techniques.

The organisations then worked under the UK Improvement Alliance (UKIA), a network of organisations dedicated to improving health and care in the UK, to spread the application and testing of the framework to additional sites and to apply the framework in new ways.

Using a set of resources and tools that were developed by the teams, there was a range of activities, events, capability building workshops and opportunities to connect.
