Shaping Health Futures Preparing for tomorrow's possibilities today
June 2019
This new Health Foundation report highlights why a greater focus on the long term is needed in health and social care.
The UK is facing a time of significant change and uncertainty, with implications for our health. This report outlines some of the major trends and changes in the population, society, technology, politics, the environment, and other areas, that will impact the future of health and social care.
The report is an initial exploration of some of the approaches used to plan and prepare for the future, drawing on examples from other countries and sectors, as well as in the UK government.
The report is a briefing paper, produced in June 2019, for a new Health Foundation programme – Shaping Health Futures – that will explore how long-term thinking can be improved in health and social care. Through the programme we will provide new thinking and analysis on some of the key issues shaping health and health services over the next 10-25 years, support policymakers to prepare better for the future and test the methods and approaches that can be used to do this.
